CASE STUDY
Tobins Solicitors
Project type: website redesign, UI/UX
2016
Context:
This was an online rebranding project for a Manchester, UK employment law firm looking to bring their site up to date. I had worked on their original project in 2009. Then we looked to push the envelope for this forward-thinking firm by designing a “single-page scroll” site (using Parallax principles). But by the time we’d revisited their online presence in the fall of 2015, the web design landscape had changed dramatically.
Challenges:
Push the envelope even further than the site I’d created in 2009, one that employed the latest and greatest in design “tricks” to really showcase this firm in relation to their local competitors. This required that I also consult with our group’s manager as this project would expand the scope of the firm’s initially purchased product. As the company was working to dig deeper into the UK market, it was also important for us to be as competitive as possible with the smaller (and cheaper) design houses in the Manchester market.
Consultation:
The firm was very open to allowing me to really run with something new and different and that showcased the firm’s product offerings in a very artistic way, as design tended to have the greatest focus in the UK markets.
Project Scope:
- Craft a site that took full advantage of the advancements in technology, specifically in responsive design
- Employ a clear UX / UI strategy to ensure that end-users have the best experience possible
- Clean the site up and streamline the navigation
- Select site imagery to reflect the firm’s Manchester, UK location and to visually provide visual reinforcement to the text content
- Push the overall design and color scheme to reflect the change in design trends from the original 2009 project
