River City Rhythm [Show Logos]

Context:
Among all of the other projects I worked on while with River City Rhythm, the Corps Executive Director asked if I could quickly develop show logos for both the 2018 and 2019 seasons. These logos would be used throughout the season to promote the Corps’ show through both RCR’s social and b2c channels and Drum Corps International’s (DCI) website, social media and broadcast partners.
Challenges:
Both seasons in which I was asked to take this project on, there was an extremely short timeline to go from concept to finished logo. The extremely tight timeline forced me to forgo the normal process with which I would normally proceed on a project like this (interview, research, sketches, narrow-down, refinement, design, edit, refine, final product). From concept to final for reveal, I was given less than a day to complete each of these logo projects.
Each logo needed to convey, in a single image, the overall vibe of the season’s show and to also be able to be altered to be presented on corresponding merchandise while still conveying a similar experience to the full logo.
Consultation:
Pitching for this project was a very quick affair, I would pull together four to five options to bring to the Executive Director and any other stakeholders to weigh in on a favorite concept, which I would then refine into a final version.
Project Scope:
- Discuss the show concept and themes with the Executive Director to identify the general visual direction the logo should take
- Define a color story that fits the overall show theme and that can translate into merchandise offerings during the tour season
- Research imagery and select options to use in the initial concepts for presentation
- Select a typeface that fits the show theme, but is also readable in multiple sizes and mediums
- Design the logo’s additional graphic elements
