CASE STUDY
J. Minos Simon
Project type: website redesign, ADA, UI/UX
2022
Context:
This project required me to solve several visual issues in order to bring this new site to market. The firm, named for the family patriarch, had passed and after some internal struggle had been awarded to the firm in question. The attorney, son Quentin, wanted to bridge the old and new in a visually interesting way, ensuring that he honored what came before him, but also making the site his own through color and imagery.
Consultation:
The marriage of the sleek header fonts with the old-school typeface style of the body copy was the visual bridge between old and new, as Quentin had also spoken about how his dad used to use a typewriter to write all of his motions and case notes, so this felt like the most natural way to bridge from J. Minos to Quentin.
Challenges:
While we had lots of custom images to work with, none of them were sourced from the attorney directly. I needed to scour his social accounts and Google to acquire photos and ultimately all were too small to use as a full-span showcase. I did, however, get lucky when I found an image that looked nearly identical to the feature wall in Quentin’s office, which is what I ultimately selected as the banner image.
Project Scope:
- Refine the established color scheme to give the site more depth
- Ensure that the site followed ADA guidelines for readability and contrast but make it interesting and engaging
- Use the firm’s branding in a new and creative way within the visual framework of the homepage layout to showcase it visually to end-users
- Bring in visual elements that have movement, but that use scroll effects rather than traditional animation to keep the site’s load time within acceptable limits and GPSI targets
- Craft engaging layouts and navigation throughout the site that encouraged end-users to interact with buttons and links to drive them deeper into the site and make contact with the firm
