CASE STUDY

Francisco Britton, LLP

Project type: website redesign, rebranding, ADA, UI/UX
2022

Context:

The directive for this redesign project was very straightforward: make it interesting. The firm’s previous site was very grey on grey and quite generic in its use of images and font choices. And while the performance was passable, the firm really wanted us to inject some personality and color into the site and better balance the aspects of performance and looks.

Challenges:

The site was severely lacking in dynamic and strategic use of color, content and visuals, but the firm really didn’t come to the table with any specifics about their expectations for the look and feel of the site, so the directive was very sparse and open.

Consultation:

I recommended that we use isometric-style images to give the visuals some depth and complimentary colors to the very deep charcoal foundational color to pull the eye to clickable and other important site elements. After some trial and error, I recommended using a bold, bright spring-green with a contrasting purple to offset the site’s dark base.

Project Scope:

  • Ensure that the new site color scheme followed ADA guidelines for readability and contrast but make it interesting and engaging
  • Create a new branding element to be used on the site that uses the updated color scheme
  • Use isometric images that bring in color, visual depth, and provide context for content
  • Bring in visual elements that have movement, but that use scroll effects rather than traditional animation to keep the site’s load time within acceptable limits
  • Craft engaging layouts and navigation throughout the site that encourages end-users to interact with buttons and links
